These qualifications are intended to develop knowledge and skills related to the children and young people’s workforce in early learning and childcare, social care, and learning development and support services.
The qualifications consist of mandatory units covering child development, health, safety and safeguarding, equality and inclusion, child health and first aid, and good childcare practice. Optional units allow learners to tailor the qualification to their roles and interests.
The Level 2 Children and Young People’s Workforce qualification is for those wishing to start their career working with children and young people. This qualification is the minimum requirement to enter the workforce for children and young people. It ensures a solid understanding of childcare and development, along with practical knowledge on how to apply this in real settings.

Level 3 is for those wishing to further develop their career in childcare and potentially move into a more senior role. The Early Learning and Childcare pathway meets the qualification requirements stated in the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework, and the Social Care pathway meets the National Care Standards requirements. At Level 3, workers gain an in-depth knowledge of childcare and development and are expected to promote good practice in all aspects of their work.

Level 4 is aimed at individuals who aspire to work in roles that involve supporting and facilitating positive outcomes for children, young people, and their families.
