Health and Social Care

One of the UK’s fastest growing sectors, Health and Social Care offers excellent opportunities for employment, career progression and job satisfaction.

Learners must take the mandatory units which cover the role of the care worker, communication and confidentiality, equal opportunities, health safety and safeguarding. They then have a choice of optional knowledge and competence units covering different areas of health and social care such as supporting person-centred approaches, advocacy, healthcare, supporting those with disabilities, learning disabilities or dementia. 

  • Learners have the opportunity to take a general qualification in health and social care,  or they may follow specialist pathways in Dementia Care or Learning Disabilities.

The Level 2 Health and Social Care, is for those wishing to start their career in Health and Social Care and can be focused on dementia, old age or young and vulnerable people.  It provides the necessary qualification to work in the health and social care industry and can lead to progression.

Level 3 is for those wishing to further develop their career in Health and Social Care and potentially move in to a more senior role, and can be focused on dementia, old age or young and vulnerable people.

The Level 3 Community Health and Wellbeing course is designed for individuals looking to advance their career in promoting health within communities. It focuses on key areas such as mental health, lifestyle improvement, and public health initiatives.

This qualification supports entry into roles across community support services and can lead to further study or career progression in health and wellbeing.

Core Units 

  • Use preventative approaches to promote the health and wellbeing of individuals, groups and communities, addressing the wider determinants of health and causes of ill-health 
  • Help communities to build local resilience and identify strengths, capacity and resources that support their health and wellbeing
  • Provide informed advice about local services and projects that support health and wellbeing

 

  • Manage referrals from a range of agencies, professionals and through self-referral 
  • Apply behavioural science to help people find practical solutions for better health and wellbeing 
  • Implement actions set out in strategies and policies that promote health and wellbeing at community level 

 

  • Communicate public health messages and information to promote health and wellbeing at an individual, group and community level 
  • Manage data and information and contribute to the evaluation of projects and services 
  • Operate within legal and ethical frameworks that relate to the promotion and protection of the public’s health and wellbeing 
  • Take responsibility for personal and professional development in line with organisational protocol

Level 5 is for those wishing to move in to management or already started in post as manager, and can be focused on dementia, old age or young and vulnerable people.
